Drums, Dance & Dazzling Costumes - Carnival of the World Returns to Reading this August!

Reading, get ready for the most vibrant celebration of culture, music and movement! Carnival of the World is back this Saturday 9th August, and it’s set to be bigger, louder and more dazzling than ever before!
From 12pm to 5:30pm, Broad Street will be transformed into a kaleidoscope of colour, rhythm and international flair, with a spectacular high street parade, live performances and larger-than-life visual displays.
This year’s main stage features a rich lineup of local and international artists including; Jazzrobeat Collective, a talented teen jazz ensemble bringing fresh energy; Gerry Ranks, a Calypsonian with feel-good island vibes; Afrobeat R&B artist Lord B, reggae soul singer Harmonie Deja; and award-winning 25-piece steel band Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra (RASPO).
Expect to be amazed as the town centre explodes into life with the Broad Street Parade, a spectacle showcasing stunning carnival costumes from Lost In Paradise Mas; African Drumming & Stilt Dancers by the electric Kaagô; Beatroots samba drummers; and towering 4-metre tall giant puppets from the renowned Global Grooves.
Whether you're drawn to the infectious sounds of Soca, captivated by traditional dance, or just want to soak in the atmosphere of unity and celebration, this FREE event has something for everyone.
“This is more than just a street party,” said Artistic Director, Mary Genis, “Carnival of the World is a joyful celebration of Reading’s diversity and creativity – and an invitation for everyone to come together in the heart of our town.”
