Bringing history alive
Over 900 years old and the burial site of King Henry I of England, Reading Abbey Ruins are open every day and offer guided group tours. A heritage visit to Reading also includes finding out more about the time famous figures Jane Austen and Oscar Wilde spent in what is now known as Reading’s Abbey Quarter and wondering at the only full-scale replica of the Bayeux Tapestry, which can be seen in Reading Museum.
The Museum of English Rural Life (The MERL) tells the stories of rural England past and present. The museum welcomes booked grtoups of up to 40.
For summer 2023, bring Reading's medieval history to life at a performance of Henry I in the Abbey Ruins by RABBLE Theatre.
