Celebrate Lunar New Year in Reading with Food, Dance and Festivities

Reading is set to welcome the Lunar New Year in style as Broad Street transforms into a lively celebration of food, culture and live entertainment on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February.

Running from 11am–5pm each day, the Lunar New Year Food Festival will pack the town centre with authentic Asian flavours, traditional performances and family-friendly activities.
Visitors can explore a mouth-watering range of Asian street food and desserts, from savoury favourites to indulgent sweet treats. A fully stocked bar will also be on hand, serving craft beer, cocktails and soft drinks, making it the perfect spot to relax and soak up the festive atmosphere.

The event is designed for all ages, with giant games and children’s activities creating a fun and welcoming day out for families, friends and visitors alike.
Across the weekend, festivalgoers can enjoy four live performances celebrating the richness and diversity of Chinese and Asian cultures:
- Traditional Chinese Waist Drum with Red Ribbons Dance: Performed by Reading Chinese School, this energetic display features powerful drumbeats and flowing red ribbons, symbolising joy, celebration and good fortune.
- Taiji (Tai Chi): A serene and graceful performance showcasing this ancient Chinese practice, highlighting balance, mindfulness and harmony between body and mind.
- ‘Start Dancing’ – Tibetan Dance: A captivating Tibetan performance combining expressive movement, traditional storytelling and vibrant costumes, reflecting spiritual connection and cultural heritage.
- Dance of Unity: 56 Ethnic Groups of China: A colourful and uplifting celebration of China’s diverse ethnic communities, featuring dynamic choreography and traditional dress.
