Steph McGovern and Ross Brawn to Headline Major Reading Event on the ‘Power of Apprenticeships’

REDA celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with high-profile business innovation showcase at Reading Town Hall.
Reading’s Economy and Destination Agency (REDA) has today announced a flagship event, ‘The Power of Apprenticeships | Driving Business Innovation’, featuring renowned broadcaster Steph McGovern and motorsport legend Ross Brawn.
Taking place on 11 February at 1:00 PM at Reading Town Hall, the event coincides with National Apprenticeship Week. The afternoon is designed to showcase how apprenticeships bridge the gap between education and industry, driving fresh ideas and practical capability into the local economy.
The event features an incredible line-up of speakers, including Steph McGovern, Award-winning journalist and broadcaster known for her business expertise, and Ross Brawn, Managing Director of Motorsports and one of the most respected technical leaders in Formula 1 history.
Originally from Middlesbrough, Steph McGovern started as an apprentice engineer at Black & Decker where, aged nineteen, she won the title of Young Engineer for Britain before studying at University College London. She then went on to become the lead producer of financial news for the BBC before becoming an on-air correspondent.
A long-standing Thames Valley resident, Ross Brawn’s passion for motorsport was ignited early with his apprenticeship at the UK Atomic Energy Authority in Harwell. This laid the foundation of a pioneering career that would shape the sport for decades. He began his work in Motorsport at March Engineering in Bicester and later joined Williams Grand Prix Engineering in Reading, marking the start of an extraordinary trajectory.
Attendees will experience a dynamic programme including a panel discussion, an interactive Q&A session, and the opportunity to engage directly with local apprenticeship providers. Fans and professionals alike will also have the chance to meet Ross Brawn and attend a book signing with Steph McGovern.
