Reading BID Wardens strengthen Town Centre Safety with swift Police Partnership
6th October 2025
Reading town centre is working hard to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming destination, thanks to the round-the-clock work of the Reading Business Improvement District (BID) Wardens and their close collaboration with Thames Valley Police.
Seven days a week, the SIA-accredited Wardens patrol the streets, offering assistance to visitors, providing first aid, and supporting retailers and offices with any incidents of concern. Their presence and quick communication with police, means issues are resolved quietly and efficiently, often before they become a problem.
That partnership recently showed its strength during a targeted operation in late July, when Wardens tracked a known repeat offender and relayed key intelligence to the Reading Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team. Acting on that information, officers carried out a successful raid that recovered a large cache of stolen goods and disrupted an organised network handling illicit merchandise.
Inspector James Tribe praised the “excellent piece of partnership working,” noting that it demonstrates how a united approach is helping to keep Reading’s shopping streets safe and vibrant.
Since January 2025, the Wardens have helped recover over £105,000 worth of goods, supported multiple arrests and identifications, and earned both a national Retail Risk Award and a commendation from Thames Valley Police for their outstanding service.
With their proven track record and constant presence, the BID Wardens continue to give businesses, residents and visitors the confidence to enjoy everything Reading’s vibrant town centre has to offer.
