Developing an Economic Framework for Reading
17th July 2025
REDA’s plans to develop a new Economic Development Framework for Reading has moved another step forward with the publication of the eight key challenges facing Reading and the corresponding interventions required.
The REDA Board met in the spring to begin to tackle the issues faced by the Reading economy. This process has now been honed down to the key areas, from labour market imbalances to strengthening public transport and urban uplift. Each of the eight areas that needs addressing has a required outcome and steps to implementation.
Nigel Horton-Baker, REDA Chief Executive, said: “The Framework will act as the basis for future investment in Reading, supporting the local economy and positioning Reading in a wider geo-political environment.”
REDA is now looking for the wider view from business in Reading - to test the premise of the framework and to health check each area. Once this consultation stage is complete, it will go through the formal process to be adopted by Reading Borough Council as the Economic Development Framework for Reading.
