In 2023, the British Film Institute (BFI) designated Berkshire a ‘Skills for Screen Cluster’, allocating £600,000 of National Lottery funding to train new and emerging film and TV production crew in the region.
Screen Berkshire was set up to address the skills priorities for the industry in Reading’s Cine Valley area, acting as a bridge between local residents, freelance crew, training providers, studios, suppliers and content producers.
The funding for Screen Berkshire has been extended for another 3 years from 2026-29 and REDA will now be active partners with Screen Berkshire, rolling out skills initiatives in Reading but supporting work across Berkshire. REDA also works with University of Reading and Activate Learning in developing skills initiatives and events.
