5th August 2025
Heading to Reading for a football match? Whether you’re a devoted fan or just love the excitement of matchday atmosphere, Reading offers much more to fill your day or weekend. From easy transport links to a vibrant town centre, our riverside town is packed with heritage and culture, promising an unforgettable trip – and potentially more than you expected. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your visit to Reading in the 2025/26 season.
Getting to Reading FC
Reading FC’s home, the Select Car Leasing Stadium, is just two miles south of the town centre, easily accessible for fans traveling from near and far. Thanks to Reading’s status as one of the UK’s best-connected railway hubs, getting here by train couldn’t be simpler. From Reading Station, catch a quick 5-minute train to Green Park Station, followed by a short 15-minute walk to the stadium. Alternatively, hop on the regular F1 football shuttle bus that runs directly from the station to the ground on matchdays.
If you’re driving, official parking options are available near the stadium – make sure to check Reading FC’s website ahead of time to plan your trip and avoid unnecessary matchday hassle.
Make a weekend of it
Why just come for the match when Reading offers so much more? The town boasts a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget and preference. Stay right in the heart of town at popular hotels like the Ibis, Novotel, or Malmaison, or opt for the convenience of being steps from the stadium by booking a room at the Hilton Reading or Voco Reading.
Once you’re here, take a stroll through Reading’s bustling town centre. Indulge in some retail therapy at The Oracle shopping centre, home to high street favourites like Zara and H&M, or browse the charming independent shops and large department stores along pedestrianised Broad Street.
Fuel Up and Unwind
Reading Football Stadium offers plenty of refreshments, but for a pre-match meal or post-game celebration, Reading’s town centre has lots more food and drink on offer. Why not head to The Three Guineas near the station for a welcoming, no-fuss pub experience or try Siren Bar at Station Hill, known for its impressive selection of local craft beers. For something a bit more unique, don’t miss Blue Collar Corner, a lively indoor-outdoor street food village featuring local brews like Double Barrelled’s ‘Ding lager’ and a great range of eats. You can also visit Double Barrelled’s own on-site tap room, a short walk from the town centre.
Things to do, beyond Football
Reading isn’t just about football. Explore the town’s diverse entertainment options, activities and attractions, from escape rooms and bowling alleys to climbing centres, museums and indoor crazy golf. Did you know Reading is on the Thames? Just a 5-minute walk from the station, you can enjoy scenic river cruises, visit the Thames Lido for coffee or a swim, or even try paddleboarding at the nearby Wokingham Canoe Centre.
