Could you volunteer to represent Reading?
29th May 2025
A team of local volunteers have been welcoming visitors to Reading every weekday for the last four years. During Volunteer Week (2 – 9 June), REDA is looking for more like-minded people to join the team and help expand the Reading Ambassador welcome programme, which is based at Reading Station.
The volunteers make sure people arriving at Reading Station receive a warm welcome and provide information to help them make the most of their visit to Reading. The Ambassadors, who are managed by REDA (Reading’s Economy and Destination Agency) and based at a mobile visitor information stand in the station, provide maps, information, directions and a warm welcome. They are at the station every weekday morning, whatever the weather and time of year, to provide a friendly welcome. They provide information on things to do in Reading as well as practical help on how to reach their eventual destination in Reading.
Alex Brannen of REDA, said: “This remarkable group of people have a huge pride in their town and are delighted to share that passion with visitors, ensuring they create a fantastic first impression of Reading. Whether here for work, leisure or other reasons, visitors make a b-line for the Welcome Ambassadors on the Information Stand with all sorts of queries. Our volunteer team have made a real difference to travellers’ experience of Reading with a smile, offers of help and lots of practical information. We are always looking for new volunteers to join us, so if you feel equally passionate about Reading and can spare three hours a week, please do get in touch.”
