Christmas in Reading just wouldn’t be the same without a trip to The Hexagon for the annual pantomime, and this year’s show is set to be a real treat! Beauty and the Beast bursts onto the stage from 6 December to 4 January, starring Reading’s favourite Justin Fletcher as Arthur Pint and the hilarious Paul Morse as Nanny Pint. Expect dazzling costumes and plenty of audience participation.
But why stop at the show? Turn your panto visit into a full day (or night!) of Christmas fun with delicious dining, twinkling lights and a few extra festive surprises around town. Here’s how to make your Beauty and the Beast outing one to remember.

Grab a Bite Before the Curtain Rises
The Hexagon’s central location means you’ve got plenty of options for a family-friendly meal just a short stroll away. Head to Bella Italia for classic Italian favourites, Rosa’s Thai for fragrant and mild Thai dishes that kids love, or Bill’s for comforting British fare in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. If you’re after something a little different, Cosmo offers a buffet-style experience with something for everyone, perfect for families with fussy eaters. Check out all restaurants in the town centre here.
For those with a sweet tooth, swing by Creams just round the corner for waffles and ice cream - because it’s Christmas, after all!

Wander Through the Christmas Market on Broad Street
Before the show, take a stroll down Broad Street and soak up the atmosphere at Reading’s Christmas Market. Wooden stalls, glittering lights and the smell of cinnamon make it impossible not to feel festive. You can pick up handmade gifts, sample some roasted chestnuts, or grab a drink to sip as you wander.
It’s also the perfect spot to let the kids spend their pocket money on a Christmas decoration or a treat to take into the show!

Experience Illuminate Reading
Once the sun sets, the whole town transforms with twinkling lights and colourful displays thanks to Illuminate Reading. Forbury Gardens and Reading Abbey Ruins come alive with this sparkling trail, ideal for a pre-panto stroll or a magical way to end the evening.

Visit Winter Wonderland
If you’re making a full day of it, don’t miss Reading Winter Wonderland at Hills Meadow. Just a short walk from The Hexagon, it’s packed with festive fun for the whole family - from the ice rink and giant observation wheel to Santa’s grotto, funfair rides and festive food stalls. It’s the perfect place for kids to let off some steam.
Warm Up with a Hot Chocolate
Nothing says Christmas quite like a rich, creamy hot chocolate. Stop by one of Reading’s fantastic cafes for a proper sweet treat in a cosy area with seating.

Do a Little Christmas Shopping
If you’re seeing a matinee, make the most of the morning with some Christmas shopping. The Oracle and Broad Street Mall are both within easy walking distance, packed with shops to help you tick off your festive gift list.
Getting There and Parking
The Hexagon is right in Reading town centre, just a short walk from Reading Station and close to several car parks. Broad Street Mall has the closest car park, but Q-Park Chatham Place and The Oracle are all convenient and close options, with plenty of spaces for families coming to see the show. If you’re visiting by train, it’s around a 10-minute walk from the station, perfect for soaking up Reading's Christmas light display along the way.

Make It a Family Tradition
Whether it’s your first visit or a yearly tradition, Reading’s panto is a fantastic night out for the whole family. So grab your tickets, wrap up warm and make your trip a full festive day in Reading!
