Football in Reading means Reading FC. Having celebrated its 150th anniversary in the 2021/22 season, Reading is one of the country's oldest clubs. The Royals play at the newly named Select Car Leasing Stadium (previously known as the Madejski Stadium) in South Reading, near to the M4. 

The men's team are currently playing in League One (the 3rd tier of English football) while the women's team are in Tier 5 of the Women's Football Pyramid. 

It is easy to get to the stadium on match days with regular shuttle buses from the station and a number of car parks near to the ground.

For those looking to play football, there are a number of adult and youth clubs in Reading playing in local leagues. Youth clubs include Whiteknights FC in East Reading, AFC Caversham north of the river and Barton Rovers in Tilehurst.
