We concluded the Upper Wield to Winchester section along the Itchen Valley by taking a bus from Winchester back to Itchen Stoke and then walking the 7.5 miles back into Winchester.
This is another lovely section following the river with beautiful views along the river valley - we found a helpfully placed swing to stop and enjoy the views. And you won't miss the gorgeous houses just above the path. We bumped into Peter of Walking.Camino who was cutting back some of the overgrowth on the route for walkers. Peter's company offer a baggage carrying and accommodation service for the St James' Way. He also recommends carrying secateurs for the odd section which can get overgrown after a few days sun and rain!
There is church after church along this short section if you like your religious architecture. The Itchen then carried us right into the centre of Winchester, from where we could return home easily.
